ฺี์Better Off: Library for the Youth
Did you know that 36% of the Thai population does not read regularly?
At Concordian, the importance and benefit of reading is regularly emphasized. Reading is a fundamental key to learning and helps individuals maximize their potential. Unfortunately, many children in rural Thailand lack the opportunity to access suitable and interesting books. As a result, they do not form the habit of reading regularly and do not benefit from this highly rewarding activity.
“Better Off” was founded by a group of eleventh graders who want to make a difference in the world. In order to provide rural children with an opportunity to gain knowledge and progress in life, we plan to build a public library in Chaiyaphum. Currently, there is no public library in the area. Young children do not read in their free time. Older students lack access to resources for research. Clearly, change is needed in this community. Our goal is to instill and nurture a love of reading from a young age, and cultivate a lifelong reading habit.
However, this project cannot be a success without support from the Concordian community. Better Off is seeking book donations and corporate sponsors to make this project a reality. Benefits for corporate sponsors include featuring the sponsor’s company name on the library books and an opportunity to promote corporate social responsibility. Our estimate for the total cost of building the library is about 300,000 THB.
We will be organizing a book donation in the school Lobby starting Monday, 2nd March. Our target is to collect 1000 books for the library.
If you are interested in making a contribution, big or small, or sponsoring the project please feel free to contact Soravis (Man) for more details at 089-111-4942 or send an
