ประวัติวิทยากร
ดร. สตีเฟน คราเชน ศาสตราจารย์เกียรติคุณด้านการศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัยเซาเทิร์นแคลิฟอร์เนีย, สหรัฐอเมริกา ท่านเป็นที่รู้จักดีในฐานะที่เป็นผู้พัฒนาทฤษฎีที่สอนการเรียนรู้ภาษาที่สองที่มีเนื้อหาโดยละเอียด ท่านริเริ่มวิธีการสอนแบบ “Sheltered Subject Matter Teaching” และเป็นผู้ร่วมคิดค้นวิธีการสอนแบบธรรมชาติ “Natural Approach”
ดร.คราเชนยังได้ทุ่มเทค้นคว้าเกี่ยวกับทฤษฎีและการนำมาประยุกต์ใช้ของการศึกษาแบบสองภาษา นอกจากนั้นยังได้สร้างสรรค์งานค้นคว้าเกี่ยวกับการอ่าน เร็วๆ นี้ ดร. คราเชนยังได้ส่งเสริมการอ่านหนังสือด้วยความสมัครใจ (free voluntary reading)ในการเรียนรู้ภาษาที่สอง โดยเขากล่าวว่า “ผมเชื่อว่าการอ่านหนังสือด้วยความสมัครใจนี้เป็นเครื่องมือที่มีพลังมากที่สุดที่เรามีอยู่ ในการเรียนรู้ภาษา ไม่ว่าจะเป็นภาษาแม่หรือภาษาที่สอง” ในปี 2005 ดร.คราเชนได้รับการเสนอชื่อให้เข้าไปอยู่ในหอเกียรติยศแห่งการอ่านของสมาคมการอ่านหนังสือนานาชาติ (International Reading Associations’s Reading Hall of Fame) ดร.คราเชนยังเป็นสมาชิกของสมาคมการศึกษาแบบสองภาษาแห่งชาติ (National Association for Bilingual Education NABE) และได้รับเลือกตั้งเป็นสมาชิกคณะกรรมการบริหารของสมาคมดังกล่าวในปี 2005 ตลอดเวลา
20 ปีที่ผ่านมาเขาได้จัดพิมพ์หนังสือมากกว่า 100 เล่มและบทความมากมาย อีกทั้งยังได้เป็นวิทยากรให้ความรู้ในการอบรมไม่น้อยกว่า 300 แห่งทั่วโลก ดร.คราเชนสำเร็จการศึกษาดุษฎีบัณฑิตสาขาภาษาศาสตร์จากมหาวิทยาลัยแคลิฟอร์เนียลอสแอนเจลิส (UCLA) เขาเคยทำงานในหน่วยงานอาสาสมัครเพื่อสันติภาพ (Peace Corps) ที่ประเทศเอธิโอเปียซึ่ง ณ ที่นั่นเขาได้สอนวิชาภาษาอังกฤษและวิทยาศาสตร์ให้กับนักเรียนชั้นเกรดแปด นอกจากนี้ ดร.คราเชนยังมีความสามารถด้านกีฬาโดยมีคุณสมบัติเป็นนักเทควนโดสายดำอีกด้วย ท่านสามารถศึกษาผลงานของเขาได้จากเว็บไซต์ http://www.sdkrashen.com

This will be Dr. Stephen Krashen's first seminar engagement in Thailand, at the invitation of Concordian International School which is recognized as a model language acquisition school and the world's first PYP English-Chinese immersion program. About the Speaker: Dr. Stephen Krashen is Emeritus Professor of Education at the University of Southern California. He is best known for developing the first comprehensive theory of second language acquisition, introducing the concept of sheltered subject matter teaching, and as the co-inventor of the Natural Approach. Krashen has also contributed to theory and application in the area of bilingual education, and has done important work in the area of reading. Most recently, Krashen promotes the use of free voluntary reading during second language acquisition, of which he says "I believe that it is the most powerful tool we have in language education, first and second."
Krashen was inducted into the International Reading Association's Reading Hall of Fame in 2005. He is a member of the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) and was elected to the NABE Executive Board in 2005. During the past 20 years, he has published over 100 books and articles and has delivered over 300 lectures all over the world. He holds a PhD in Linguistics from UCLA, spent two years in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia where he taught eighth grade English and science, and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
